About Figma
Security at Figma
Compiled from public job postings, careers pages, and company materials. Data may not reflect current state — verify during interviews.
Security Philosophy
- Section 1 — Philosophy and priorities.
- Product and systemic risk reduction — "identify and drive impactful projects to improve the security of Figma’s product, platform, and IT systems" (LinkedIn Security Engineer job posting, 2025) [3] Developer partnership rather than an explicitly documented gating model — "You will partner closely with teams across the company and focus on systemic security improvements and risk reduction" (LinkedIn Security Engineer job posting, 2025) [3] Broad security-engineering remit — Figma recruits across "AI Security, Platform Security, Product Security, and Anti-Abuse" and includes security reviews, consulting, vulnerability triage, and incident response (LinkedIn Security Engineer job posting, 2025) [3] AI-assisted prevention and remediation — "We use agents to prevent, detect, and fix vulnerabilities at three stages: code generation, pull request review, and auditing of historical code" (Figma Blog, 2026) [4].
Security Team
- Section 2 — People and structure. Org model — Security Engineering appears to be a centralized function serving product, platform, IT, AI Security, Platform Security, Product Security, and Anti-Abuse.
- The public posting does not establish whether AppSec practitioners are embedded in engineering teams (LinkedIn Security Engineer job posting, 2025) [3] Publicly identified security leaders — Brad Girardeau, Manager, Security Engineering.
- LinkedIn URL not surfaced in the available results (Figma Blog, 2026) [1] Publicly identified security personnel — Matthew Sullivan, Security Engineer.
- Rohan Sharma, Liam Buchan, and Dave Martin, Security Engineers.
- No LinkedIn URLs surfaced in the available results (Figma Blog, 2026) [1][4] Team size estimate — Search query used: "Figma application security AppSec team jobs security engineering".
- Public results exposed multiple security disciplines and several named engineers but no reliable headcount, so team size is not publicly estimable.
- Active AppSec job posting count — No posting explicitly titled Application Security or AppSec was identified in the available results.
- One broad Security Engineer posting states hiring for multiple Security Engineering teams, including Product Security (LinkedIn, 2025) [3] Common skill and responsibility patterns — security reviews, consulting, vulnerability triage, incident response, systemic security improvements, risk reduction, and expertise in Application Security, Cloud Security, Corporate Security, Data Access Governance, or IAM (LinkedIn Security Engineer job posting, 2025) [3].
Key Initiatives
Section 3 — Programs and workflows. Security Champions program No public result identified a Figma Security Champions program. Shift-left in CI/CD AI agents reportedly guard code as it is written, review every pull request, and audit historical code; the available public material does not specify pre-commit hooks, IDE plugins, named pipeline gates, or CI product integrations (Figma Blog, 2026) [1][4] Vulnerability management Publicly documented intake and workflow signals include security reviews, consulting, vulnerability triage, and incident response; Figma's agentic security system creates Asana tickets for on-call engineers after alerts are posted to Slack (LinkedIn job posting; Figma Blog, 2025–2026) [1][3] Secure SDLC ceremonies Security reviews and consulting are listed responsibilities for Security Engineering, but specific threat-modeling, architecture-review, design-review, or secure-SDLC ceremony requirements are not publicly available (LinkedIn Security Engineer job posting, 2025) [3] New programs or tool rollouts in the last 6 months Figma publicly described an agentic system for alert triage, forensic investigation, security-data-lake queries, code fixes, pull requests, and retained learning; the article identifies Panther as the SIEM and Slack plus Asana as alert and ticketing surfaces (Figma Blog, July 2026) [1] Figma also described agents operating at code generation, pull-request review, and historical-code auditing stages (Figma Blog, July 2026) [4]
